A recent mainstream news article on noninvasive prenatal screening for rare genetic disorders has led to many questions and provides an opportunity for education and dialogue. This timely event will provide an introduction to Non-invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) screening, along with a detailed conversation regarding how the technology is currently deployed, how patients can benefit, and how screening tests differ from diagnostic tests.

AMP hosted a virtual Patient Advocate Conversation focused on gene patenting and its potential impact on access to molecular testing. Moderated by Dr. Jill Murrell of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the event featured Lisa Schlager of FORCE and Dr. Karen Weck of UNC. Attendees discussed proposed legislation that could reverse key Supreme Court decisions and once again allow patents on human genes.
